PacifiCorp's Naughton Power Plant is nestled against a pristine backdrop of Wyoming plains and well beaten paths from by-gone eras of pioneers making their way to unsettled and unexplored areas. Little did they realize, less than 150 years later the area they camped would become home to one of the region's most fertile power producing plants.
Despite the size of the Naughton plant, it still requires a great deal of water to keep the plant operating. A small percentage of this water is delivered out of the plant in the form of waste and is contained in retention ponds.
G.M. Stewart Corporation was called upon to expand an exsisting pond by enhancing the dyke size by approximately 500,000 cubic-yards, extending the liner size by 30 feet as well as modifying piping and associated equipment. The project also had significant reclamation of disturbed areas. The extension also increased the operating life of the plant by 7 years.
Close scrutiny was maintained by the Owner, Independent Engineers, and State Regulatory Agencies. The entire project was completed two-weeks ahead of schedule and without any safety incidents.
